You don't need hours of homework or expensive programs. A short, regular routine, the same time most days, builds skills and good habits. Here's a 15-minute plan that fits around school and play.

The 15-minute routine

  • 5 minutes of maths: one skill at a time, like a times table, a short worksheet or the daily challenge.
  • 5 minutes of words: spelling, sight words or handwriting.
  • 5+ minutes of reading: together or alone. Many schools suggest 15โ€“20 minutes of reading a day, so read longer if your child is enjoying it.

Tips that make it stick

  • Same time, same place: after a snack works well for many families.
  • Use a routine chart so your child can see what's next and tick it off.
  • Stop while it's still fun. Ending on a win makes tomorrow easier.
  • Celebrate effort: stars, stickers or simply telling someone what they learned.
  • Follow what school is teaching this term: ask the teacher which skills to practise.
